Dolomite
Dolomite Lime is a finely ground natural limestone soil amendment supplying 22.7% calcium and 11.8% magnesium — two nutrients in a single application — while gradually raising the pH of acidic soil. Unlike calcitic lime, which delivers calcium alone, dolomite is a double-carbonate mineral that supplies both calcium and magnesium in a roughly 2:1 ratio close to what most plants take up.
Calcium supports cell-wall strength and root development; magnesium is the central atom of every chlorophyll molecule. Dolomite neutralizes soil acidity through a carbonate reaction, and because the magnesium fraction dissolves more slowly than calcium carbonate, it buffers pH gradually over months rather than producing a rapid spike — a more forgiving curve that is less likely to overshoot the target range. It suits vegetable gardens, lawns, fruit trees, flower beds, compost piles, and peat-based container mixes.
Dolomite works best applied several weeks before planting and worked into the soil; a soil test is the best way to set the correct rate. It is not appropriate for acid-loving plants such as blueberries, azaleas, rhododendrons, and potatoes, which prefer a lower soil pH. It is sold as an agricultural soil amendment, not as an animal feed or livestock supplement. Minimize dust when handling, wear eye protection, and store sealed and dry.
